Twitter introduces a docked Direct Messages box

Twitter's current interface does not allow you to scroll through your timeline and read your Direct Messages without switching tabs. Now, the micro-blogging site has unveiled a new DM experience that lets you open your private chat box without leaving your timeline.

Introduced at an inopportune moment, Twitter's DM is now docked at the bottom right of your screen on the platform's web version. This new interface allows you to send and receive private messages without switching between your timeline and the Messages tab.

That said, the dedicated tab for DMs remains in place if you want to see your conversations in the old interface. Likewise, you may want to use the old DM if you want to open your messages in a larger view. That's because the new experience does not seem to have a straightforward way of expanding the docked chat box.

Twitter's new experience was first announced last month, and looks similar to that of Facebook and LinkedIn, allowing you to access your messages from a pop-up window at the bottom of the screen. It's the latest change to DM since the introduction of emoji reactions earlier this year.
